Official Rules

1. Eligibility

Participants must be at least 21 years old.

You do not have to be an experienced runner, but you should be physically capable of safely completing one mile.

Participation is voluntary and completed at your own risk.

2. Four Drinks and Four Laps

The challenge must be completed in this order:

  1. Finish beer number one.
  2. Complete one 400-meter lap.
  3. Finish beer number two.
  4. Complete one 400-meter lap.
  5. Finish beer number three.
  6. Complete one 400-meter lap.
  7. Finish beer number four.
  8. Complete the fourth and final 400-meter lap.

Every beverage must be completely finished before the participant begins the following lap.

3. Total Time Decides the Winner

A participant’s total completion time includes running and drinking time. The timer starts as soon as you crack your first beer. Time stamps, or the entire run should be included in the video for verification.

4. Approved Courses

A standard 400-meter running track is strongly preferred.

A clearly measured 400-meter or quarter-mile loop may also be used when a running track is unavailable. Participants using another course must submit GPS or mapping proof showing the total distance.

Treadmill submissions will not be accepted.

Do not complete the challenge on an active public road or anywhere that creates a danger for the participant, filmer, drivers or pedestrians.

5. Containers

All four cans or bottles must be unopened at the beginning of the video.

Each beverage may only be opened immediately before it is consumed.

Participants must drink directly from the original can or bottle.

Do not puncture, squeeze, modify or tamper with a container. Shotgunning, straws, funnels and other drinking aids are not permitted.

After finishing each beverage, turn the container upside down on camera to show that it is empty.

6. Video Requirements

The entire attempt must be recorded in one continuous video. Edits are allowed but if we think you cheated, you will be disqualified.

The recording must begin before the first beverage is opened and continue until the participant completes the fourth lap.

The video must clearly show:

  • The participant
  • All four unopened beverages
  • Each beverage being opened and finished
  • Each empty container being turned upside down
  • All four laps
  • The start and finish
  • A continuously running clock or timer

A second person may record the attempt from the center of a track, from the transition area or by safely following the participant.

Videos containing cuts, missing sections, speed changes or other edits may not be approved.

7. Distance Proof

Participants must provide at least one of the following:

  • A video clearly showing that the attempt took place on a standard 400-meter track
  • A GPS activity screenshot showing the completed route and distance
  • A route map showing the measured course
  • Continuous footage clearly establishing the length and number of laps

BDOA may request additional proof before approving an entry.

8. Safety Rules

Have another responsible adult present whenever possible.

Warm up beforehand, wear appropriate footwear and choose a safe course away from vehicles.

Do not participate when sick, injured or under the influence of alcohol or another impairing substance.

Stop immediately if you become dizzy, have difficulty breathing, feel chest pain, vomit or otherwise feel unwell.

There is no penalty lap. Anyone who becomes sick should stop the attempt rather than continue.
