Spare Beers is a doubles bowling tournament running throughout February 2026. Team scores are calculated by combining both players’ bowling scores and adding bonus points for each pint drank. Each pint finished during active play earns 7 bonus points.
The team with the highest combined base score and beer bonus score will win.
This is a month-long event, allowing members to compete multiple times and whenever they want. Teams may submit as many attempts as they want during the event period, but all submissions must include valid proof of membership and proof of play.
If multiple scores are submitted by the same team, the highest verified score will be counted.

Rules
- Only Members Eligible for Prizes: All are welcome to participate, but only Members are eligible to win prizes and have their name added to the Championship Plaque. Proof of membership is required with every submission. Memberships are $14.99 each and can be found here.
- Doubles: Teams must consist of two members bowling together at the same time. Players must remain paired for the entire game. Partners cannot be swapped mid-round or between frames.
- Full Rounds: Each player must bowl one complete round consisting of 10 frames. Partial games or incomplete rounds will not be accepted.
- Beer Points: Only beers fully finished during active play count toward bonus points. Beers consumed before the first frame or after the final frame do not qualify. Each beer must be consumed by the player earning the points. Sharing beers or discarding beer is gross and voids those points.
- No Bumpers: Bumpers are not allowed under any circumstances.
Scoring
Base Score
The base score is the combined total of both players’ final bowling scores. Photo proof of the final scoreboard is required.
Beer Points
Each pint finished during the round earns 7 bonus points. Beer points are added to the base score after the game is completed.
Scoring Formula
(P1 bowling score + P1 beers finished) + (P2 bowling score + P2 beers finished) = Total Score
Proof & Submissions
All submissions must include clear photo or video proof of the final bowling scores and confirmation that both players bowled together in the same game. Proof must be legible and unedited. Submissions that are unclear, incomplete, or misleading may be disqualified.
Don’t cheat!
Lane & Conduct Guidelines
- Players must follow all bowling alley rules and use the alley’s official scoring system without adjustment. Any mechanical issues must be resolved by alley staff before continuing play.
- Spare Beers relies on honesty and good sportsmanship. Any attempt to manipulate scores, falsify beer consumption, or submit misleading proof will make me sad, and could result in disqualification from the event.
As always, be honest and drink responsibly.
Tie-Breaker Rules
In the event of a tie, the following tie-breakers will be applied in order:
- Most strikes between partners
- Most spares between partners
- Fewest open frames between partners
If a tie still remains after all tie-breakers are applied, the organizers reserve the right to declare co-winners or introduce a final tie-breaker challenge.
Submission Deadline
All Spare Beers submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM PST on February 28, 2026.
Submissions received after this deadline will not be considered, regardless of score or proof quality.
Final scores will be reviewed after the deadline, and winners will be announced once verification is complete.
